I got the look

I do love the look I get from people…

At the time of writting this (3 days ago in my little note book) I was lying in the middle of the road  in the international airport of Charleroi, Brussel. I was getting ready to spend a 12 hour night there and was just enjoying the last bit of daylight before I would have to retire indoors to get some warmth into my body.

As I lay there leaning against my boardbag with my legs tapping against the pole in front of me to the rhythm of the sound beeing prodused by my trusty old Ipod. I watch how people either are completly unaware of my presants there or stare, glare, smile, nod and give me a whole lot of other unidentifiable looks I can’t quite understand… I sit there and wonder what these people think about when they see characters like myself. It seems to me like most of them can’t really understand how I can just lay there not giving a shit about what anybody thinks with a bag they can’t imagen what contains…

Back in the day I would probebly have been looked appon, by most, as some trashy drop out with my long greasy hair wearing a pair of baggies (smimming shorts for those of you who dont know what that is) and a old T-shirt with my beat up bag full of holes. There are as a mater of fact still quite a few people who seem to think this but there are also the other people who find me fasinating enough to ask me what my story is, and after they hear it they acctualy seem to respect me a whole lot more then they could have imagened. This is because us surfers who travel a lot are, whether we like it or not, a very uniuqe group of people. Each with our own uniqe story.

Follow my story here.

pas de bons resultats, mais les bonnes expriences. PART:3

Next up I was to be traveling to the little town of Vieux Bouxau further down south for the NK. I got there yet again by taking the train from bordeaux to Dax and was not for the first time told that I wasnt allowed my massive boardbag on board but I once again acted inocent and said I was terribly sorry and would get of next time but luckely that next time was my destination…. From there I waited 2 and a half hours in the misrable rain for the only bus that day (it was sunday) which I came about 3 seconds away from missing as it had disided to leave from the wrong platform. Luckely it paid off to drop all my shit and run like a crazed out looney tune, wisteling my lips of and jumping in the middle of the road until he stopped. Finally arriving in le centre ville it was a short kilometer walk to the beach where I was to surf the rest of the day awayting the MONSTER crew as that was going to be my final resting place on this trip. That week consisted of surfing, eating, drinking MONSTER, causing shit with the French fries (this was made up of a talking ass, stopping cars and showing them whats in (my) trunk, some spicy pizza’s and more which will soon be posted) and then a little party organised by who els but the MONSTER team to end the event!

                                                         Waves were fun…..

and the parties good… although Kasper Hamminga wasnt to friendly to the DJ

Click here for a video edit put together by Marijn Bouwmeester… Funnier one to      follow!

I was lucky to score a lift back with De Roode and Schmitzy which included long talks about contest and other not-so-serious subjects and a few more energy drinks to make it through the night without colliding with the steady stream op holiday makers oppisite us.

So those were my ventures in a place which is one of a kind in more the one way. Next time I’ll back in Holland for an other NK compo and lots more fun with the MONSTER boys and others!!!

pas de bons résultats, mais les bonnes expériences. PART 2

So, part 2…

After the event I took the bus to Les Sables D’ Olonne and from there the train to Bordeaux via Roche sur Yon. In Bordeaux I got picked up by a friend whom I met only briefly last year during the Lacanau Pro but asstablished a good bond with. He had agreed to take care of me in between my contest here in france. It started out by changing mobile homes in the camping he worked at that season and dinners, which included a lot of hand signals due to the lanuage barier, with his co-workers. Then we went from camping in de forest into staying at his uncles super luxery villa on the beach. I had an epic day of surfing in classic 6 foot French beachbreaks and finished the day with a homemade curry and sauna session. Click here to see what he had to say about the week.

                                                        Cooking up a storm…

My amazing Latté with his mad coffee maker!!!

Next up I get crazy with the MONSTER team at Vieux Boucua in part 3!!!!

pas de bons résultats, mais les bonnes expériences. PART:1

So as you can tell from the language I used as an heading, I have been hanging around in the land of sexy beasts and baguettes with nutella, A.K.A. France…. I was there for just under 3 weeks and although not having concord any contests, big or small, I did return being able to add some crazy experiences with old and new friends into the memory chamber.

My first stop was in Vendee for the PROTEST PRO, after getting an offer to drive directly  to the little town of Brettignolles-sur-mer with international team manager of protest and now good friend, Rooderik Patijn, I decided against going with the plain down to Bordeaux and making a mission up the coast again and spending more money. On arrival every possible place to rest your head seemed dead but we drove till a camping decided to open the doors for me and allowed me to stay on a site for the night. Me not having a tent ended up spending the first night in my board-bag. The forecast for the next few days however forced me to upgrade to a mobile home which put me back 250€ but was well worth it as we got hit by a heavy storm dropping the temp to about 10 degree’s and 45km pounding onshore winds and intence rain showers! I spent most my time cruzzing with the protest crew and walking (seeing as the camping was 4km from the surf…) Next I was of to La Porch near Lacanau.

what the ocean looked like in vendee..

Tomorrow my next leg from the chilly French beachbreaks…
